WHY NOW?
What’s Not Working and Why I’m Running?
A township has seven elected members of their board of trustees – a supervisor, a clerk, a treasurer, and four trustees. Together, these individuals are meant to work as a team to listen to residents, set policy, and discuss pressing issues in the community. However, for the last four years Scio Township has experienced significant turmoil at the board table.
Since the last township election in 2020:
-
three members of the board of trustees have resigned and another lost their special election
-
the township’s bond rating has decreased due to political discord
-
elected leaders have wasted taxpayer dollars on lawsuits against the board they were elected to serve; see ‘clerk suffers another legal defeat’
-
financial management at township hall has taken a back seat to political fights, resulting in consequences for how our local government can stretch tax dollars to cover needed services
It is time for new leadership at Scio Township Hall.
I am running for Township Clerk because I have the experience, dedication, and passion for service to help turn the page on this chapter of political fighting, and get back to the business of running our government with residents' concerns in mind.
I hope you will join me in this shared vision for a renewed township government that works for the people by the people and vote Terri Merte for Scio Township Clerk on August 6th or by absentee ballot.
